Profile

Dr Marcus Tan is an experienced psychiatrist with more than 20 years of clinical experience. 

He is trained in geriatric psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, military psychiatry and liaison psychiatry. His clinical interests include mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders and stress disorders. He also manages insomnia and has a special interest in culture bound phenomenon.

He is the co-pioneer director of Nobel Psychological Wellness Clinic. Other than day-to-day clinical duties, he also serves within Heathway Medical as Head, Specialist Division, and Head, Nobel Specialist Practices

Before joining Healthway Medical, Dr Tan practised psychiatry at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), specifically in the areas of general and forensic psychiatry.

Dr Tan believes strongly that improving mental health literacy in the community to be the way forward for destigmatization of psychiatric conditions and persons with these conditions. Presently, his focus in on increasing awareness through education to shorten delay in help seeking and improving mental healthcare delivery in the community.

Among the highlights of his career thus far include his participation in the Bantul Earthquake relief during 2006. For his involvement, he was awarded the Minister of Health Award (2006), as well as the Certificate of Excellence, Directorate General of Medical Care, DR. Sarjito Hospital, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia (2006). He is also an experienced CARE Team leader, a trainer for crisis management training and an invited speaker at courses and seminars. He has also received the Service Champion Award at IMH.

In addition, Dr Tan is also a member of the Service Committee at Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre, and a Medical Assessor and Designated Medical Examiner (DME) Trainer at the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
