Profile

Dr Tan Gek Meng, Jeffrey graduated with an MBBS from the National University of Singapore and obtained his postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh).

Dr Tan specialises in lower limb reconstruction, with a particular focus on foot and ankle surgery. He treats a myriad of conditions, including sports injuries, tendon disorders, flat feet, bunions, arthritis, foot and ankle trauma, complex deformity correction, and various diabetic foot conditions. Dr Tan completed his advanced sub-specialty training and surgical fellowship in the Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery at Toronto Western Hospital in Ontario, Canada.

Upon his return from fellowship, Dr Tan spearheaded the expertise in foot and ankle reconstruction and surgery in Khoo Teck Puat hospital and build up the foot and ankle division. He is particularly interested in various sports injuries, overuse injuries, military injuries, and tendinopathy of the lower limb and foot and ankle. He continues to improve and develop ankle arthroscopy and minimally invasive techniques. Dr Tan has also managed a high volume of complex orthopaedic trauma and general orthopaedics workload at KTPH throughout the years.

Dr Jeffrey Tan was previously a Senior Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital before joining Island Orthopaedics. His main clinical specialties include sports injuries, foot and ankle services, and general orthopaedic trauma. He served in various administrative roles, including Chair of the hospital’s Wound Committee (2011–2017), and was actively involved in the multidisciplinary diabetic limb salvage programme at KTPH.

Dr Tan was engaged in the undergraduate and postgraduate education and training of medical students and junior doctors. During his tenure as Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, he served as a regular examiner in the Final MBBS examinations and received excellence recognition awards in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. He was also the Associate Programme Director for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Programme at the National Healthcare Group from 2010 to 2023 and chair of its residency programme evaluation committee. He has received consecutive service champion awards for patient care.

Dr Tan has made significant academic contributions, publishing research on foot and ankle conditions, trauma, and orthopaedic injuries, as well as a book chapter. He has presented his work at various international and local conferences and has served as an instructor for various cadaveric workshops and courses. He is also active in the local AO Foundation as faculty. Dr Tan is a member of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.

He remains committed to public service and has been appointed as a Visiting Consultant to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
