Dr Thong Jiunn Yew

Profile

Dr Thong Jiunn Yew is currently a consultant psychiatrist in Nobel Psychological Wellness Centre. He obtained his basic medical degree and his Masters of Medicine (Psychiatry) degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS). In addition, he holds a Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from NUS.He is a Fellow of the Academy Of Medicine (College of Psychiatry)

He treats mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. He also treats insomnia and anxiety disorders, and has a special interest in obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD) and stress-related disorders (due to work or marital problems).

Before he joined Healthway Medical, he practised psychiatry in the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore, where he was involved in the setting up of the High Dependency Psychiatric Care Unit (HDPCU). He also managed the multidisciplinary teams that treated patients with various mental disorders in the acute General Psychiatry ward and HDPCU.

Dr Thong practised military psychiatry during his National Service and is familiar with the treatment of stress disorders related to National Service. He served as an Adjunct Teacher to the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He has held appointments as Honorary Secretary in the Singapore Psychiatric Association (SPA). .

He has a keen interest in suicidology, and has published papers on suicide and suicidal behaviours in international journals, conferences and books.
