Profile

Dr. Charmaine Teo graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree. She subsequently underwent her post-graduate training at the National University Hospital (NUH) where she trained in various departments including Paediatric Medicine, Neonatology, Intensive Care, Children’s Emergency, and Paediatric subspecialties. She also underwent Neonatology training at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Singapore General Hospital.She obtained her postgraduate qualifications from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (United Kingdom) and Master of Medicine, Paediatrics (Singapore). In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Wong Hock Boon Gold Medal for which only outstanding individuals of sufficient merit are conferred. She is also accredited as a Paediatric Medicine Specialist by the Singapore Medical Council

Background

Prior to joining SBCC, Dr Teo was with the Child Development Unit at NUH working with children with a wide variety of developmental and behavioural problems, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning difficulties, developmental delays, as well as developmental issues in children born prematurely or with chronic medical conditions. She has been trained in Sequential-Oral-Sensory (SOS) Feeding Therapy, Brazelton Touchpoints and the Incredible Years Program and was the former Chief Resident at the Department of Paediatrics and at the National University of Singapore Clinical Faculty Scheme.

Her research has been presented at overseas and local conferences, including the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting (USA). She is one of the co-authors of the chapter on the ‘Active Child’ of the Paediatric textbook entitled ‘Pediatric Differential Diagnosis, Top 50 Problems’.Dr Teo is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (USA), and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
