Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine

With the opening of borders, there will be an increasing number of travellers entering Singapore. To safeguard the health of our travellers and citizens, Singapore will be enabling a private route for Moderna COVID-19 vaccination for travellers.

(Updated on 4 April 2022) According to Singapore’s travel advisory, Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is one of the accepted vaccinations for entry into Singapore, with a minimum requirement of 2 doses taken at least 24 days apart*.

Healthway Medical (Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital) has been approved by the Ministry of Health Singapore to provide Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations to travellers entering Singapore. These travellers will obtain a vaccination certificate (‘Vaccination HealthCert’) after vaccination.

*As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, please stay updated with the accepted list of vaccinations for entry into Singapore and latest travel requirements.

What is the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine?

Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, also known as Spikevax, has received the World Health Organization (WHO) validation for its safety, efficacy and quality.

WHO has thoroughly assessed the data on quality, safety and efficacy of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and has recommended its use for individuals aged 18 years and above.

How does Moderna COVID-19 vaccine work?

Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are mRNA vaccines, which use mRNA created in a laboratory to teach our cells how to make a protein—or even just a piece of a protein—that triggers an immune response inside our bodies. That immune response, which produces antibodies, is what protects us from getting infected if the real virus enters our bodies. (source: CDC)

Please check your eligibility for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine here.

Alternatively, if you are unsure about your eligibility because of your medical condition, consult a doctor.

Please read the following information regarding 2nd booster dose:

1) For patients who did 2 x sinovac or 2 x sinopharm, do note that 3 doses are required to complete the primary series.
The 3rd dose can be mRNA and is a full dose (non booster) Moderna. A 4th dose after the required interval will be considered the first booster, and is at half the dose of the primary series. For patients who only took 2 x sinovac or 2 x sinopharm, please kindly book the 3rd dose in the system as a two dose (primary series) vaccination.

2) As per MOH recommendations on 10.06.22, those aged 50 years old and above may now get a second booster jab 5 months after the first booster.

3) Those aged 18 and above with any of the following medical conditions may also do a second booster:
- diabetes
- heart conditions eg heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, cardiomyopathy
- chronic liver conditions, including cirrhosis
- chronic kidney conditions, including dialysis

- cancer on active treatment
- blood conditions such as thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia
- immunodeficiencies, including HIV infection
- obesity (BMI 30 and above)
- genetic metabolic conditions, including down's syndrome and cystic fibrosis
- persons on non-cancer immunosuppressive treatment

Patients that do not fulfil these criteria are not recommended by physicians to obtain a 2nd booster.

4) If you are a LTVP holder, Singaporean or PR, you may obtain an MRNA vaccine such as Moderna for free at a vaccination centre. Moderna taken at this clinic is under private vaccination program which is a paid service meant for patients not in the above groups.

5) Kindly note that MOH VACCINE INJURY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME does not cover vaccinations obtained under the private vaccination program.

6) In the event that National Vaccination Program booster 2 changes at a later stage to include patients previously ineligible, kindly understand that we will be unable to offer a refund for vaccinations performed under private vaccination program.

7) Do note that there is a minimum interval between vaccinations (eg. booster 1 to 2) and that the vaccinations are to be given based on a doctor's assessment on eligibility, with regard to medical conditions and age.
Some patients may not qualify for a second booster currently based on medical guidelines - please use this calculator to check your eligibility and on when is the next dose due.
