How common is erectile dysfunction in Singapore?
0:11 Erectile dysfunction is actually a very common sexual health issue faced by Singapore men. In a study done in 2003, up to half of the Singaporean men express difficulties with their erections.
What are the causes of erectile dysfunction?
0:26 There may be several causes for erectile dysfunction. It is more commonly found in men who are older, men with multiple cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and those who smoke or drink excessively. It also can be due to medications or underlying stress, and other medical issues.
What tests can be done to diagnose erectile dysfunction?
0:50 So usually, patients who undergo a series of questions and thorough physical examination to determine the cause or causes of their erectile dysfunction. Family doctors can then order tests to check the control of the cholesterol or sugars, as well as the testosterone if low testosterone is suspected.
Can erectile dysfunction be cured?
1:11 As erectile dysfunction is a complex medical issue, a complete cure may not be possible. However, it is highly treatable, and men can continue to enjoy a satisfactory sexual life with treatment.
What is the best treatment for erectile dysfunction?
1:27 We often start with lifestyle changes, such as losing weight if the patient is overweight, have a proper diet, exercise regularly and to quit smoking. Medications are also readily available to help improve erection. Sometimes, we refer these patients to specialists if they fail first-line treatment or if we suspect them to have more serious underlying problems.
